Rainforest Biodiversity
This lake is one of the best birding scenarios our lodge can offer. It displays a number of different microhabitats as a result of ancient rivers moving across in geological time creating a series of terraces, each containing a different type of forest. This mosaic of habitat types (being the tallest the oldest) is one of the reasons the forests here are among the richest in the world in terms of biodiversity.
In Cocha Blanco you can bird through its peaceful stagnant waters using a small catamaran; hearing the soft wing beats of a wattled Jacana. Other birds prowling around are the rare leaf eater Hoatzin, the Sunbittern, the Rufous-sided Crake, the Band-tailed and Silvered Antbird, Razor-billed Curassow, Red-capped Cardinal, Tiger heron, Snake Bird, the Pale-eyed Blackbird and the Purus Jacamar. |
