Manu, the Paradise of the birds, Photografhy Tour 12 Days
Manu National Park is a globally renowned haven of terrestrial biodiversity at the meeting point of the Tropical Andes and the Amazon Basin in Southwestern Peru. As a vast, geographically and economically isolated watershed, the still roadless property has been spared from most human impacts and is difficult to access to this day. The originally inscribed area was extended to 1,716,295 hectares in 2009
spanning the complete altitudinal gradient of the Eastern slope of the Andes from around 350 to above 4,000 m.a.s.l. The in some places precipitous transition includes high Andean Puna grasslands, mountain cloud forests, Yunga forests and lowland rainforest. Fed from numerous whitewater creeks in the mountains, the Manu River meanders through the lowland forests, before it joins the mighty Madre de Dios River at the Southern edge of the property. As evidenced by Incan and Pre-Incan site and petroglyphs, there is a long history of indigenous occupation. The local legend of Paititi.

Day 1: Cusco – Wayquecha Lodge
Activities of the day: This day we will head towards the border of Manu National Park, along the way we will be able to observe some birds like caracaras, falcons and hawks.
Target species of the day: Mountain caracara, Red-backed Hawk, Black-chested buzzard-eagle, Yungas pygmy owl, Golden-collared tanager, Grey-breasted mountain toucan. Among other species of birds
Day 2: Wayquecha Lodge all day
Activities of the day: today we will explore the road as well as the trails near the lodge.
Target species of the day: Grey-breasted mountain toucan, Scarlet-bellied mountain tanager, Golden-collared tanager, Hooded mountain tanager, Sword-billed hummingbird
Day 3: Wayquecha Lodge – San Pedro Lodge
Activities of the day: This day we will continue our journey down road towards our next photography spot. We will photograph birds along the road.
Target species of the day: Andean cock-of-the-rock, Golden-headed quetzal, Andean motmot, Grey-breasted mountain toucan, Gray Woolly monkey, Versicolored barbet and Andean Potoo
Day 4: San Pedro Lodge all Day
Activities of the day: this day we will visit a LEK of the Peruvian National Bird and later we will visit a Tanager garden.
Target species of the day: Andean cock-of-the-rock, Golden-headed quetzal, Crested Quetzal, Andean motmot, versicolored barbet, Green jay and Andean Potoo among other species of tanagers and himmingbirds.
Day 5: San Pedro – Bamboo Lodge
Activities of the day: This day we will continue with our trip to the next location, we will photograph along the road.
Target species of the day: Amazonian umbrellabird, Blue-headed macaw, Chestnut-eared aracari, Red-necked woodpecker, Crimson-crested woodpecker.
Day 6: Bamboo Lodge – Hummingbird Garden
Activities of the day: Today we will visit our first Hummingbird Garden.
Target species of the day: Common Potoo, King Vulture, Scarlet-hooded barbet, hummingbirds and Tanagers, Toucans.
Day 7: Bamboo Lodge - Manu Tended Camp “Campamento Aguaje” – Manu Biosphere Reserve:
Activities of the day and Photo Opportunities: Long day by boat at the beginning along the Alto Madre de Dios River and then Manu River but with a lot of photography opportunities.
Day 8: Manu Biosphere Reserve:
Activities of the day and Photo Opportunities: Today we will visit Salvador oxbow lake, there would be several photography opportunities from the Catamaran and then walking.
Target of the Day: Giant Otters, Emperor tamarin
Day 9: Manu Biosphere Reserve – Manu Wildlife Center
Activities of the day and Photo Opportunities: This day we will start our trip to Wildlife Center that is found along Madre de Dios River. The time to arrive at the Lodge will be at 1 pm Approx. In the afternoon will be for looking more birds and everything for pictures, in the night will for looking insects using our macro Camera.
Day 10: Tapir Clay Lick – Macaw Clay Lick at Manu Wildlife Center
Activities of the day and Photo Opportunities: Red and Green macaws, Chestnut-fronted Macaws, Blue Headed Parrots, Amazon parrots and Three-toed sloth
Day 11: Canopy Tower – Walk in the System Trails
Activities of the day and Photo Opportunities : A long today we will explore into the forest, there is one of the biggest type of three of the Amazon Rain Forest call Ceiba, we will climb up, later another activity walking on the big system of trails,
Day 12: Trip to Puerto Maldonado
Activities of the day and Photo Opportunities: The last day is just to go to Puerto Maldonado and take your fly to Cusco o Lima, end of the service.

Manu National Park is home to 10% of the world’s bird species, 228 mammal species, 132 reptile species, and more than 5,000 plant species – in total, experts estimate that more than 500,000 species exist in Manu. In addition, different ethnic groups live here, including one of the last completely isolated indigenous peoples in the world, the Mashco-Piro. All groups have their own languages, and there is an enormous cultural diversity between them.
